The Return

Fields in myriad shades of white and hues of blue
Green grass carpeted lawns
Bird songs
Colourful blooms
Cherry blossoms
Coffee downtown
Family
Friends
Long walks in a new neighbourhood
My black cat with the white diamond on her chest
Unpacking my stuff
My paints, my paintings, my art collection
My books, my poetry, my writing
My new home

April in Paris

This time last April I was in Paris. I did not pick the month for the things I had heard; my R&R simply fell at that time. I had heard how romantic and beautiful Paris was in this month, so I was really quite excited to go at that time. However, after being there during the first week of April, I concluded that it was all a bunch of clever marketing. Or global warming had changed what it was like since the 40s.

It was cold! Over the course of the week I did notice more blooms than I had on the first few days, but that just told me that I had come too early in April. We walked through the parks, like our favorite Luxembourg Gardens, but it was not resplendant with green; it was still winter with only the promise of spring but not the feel or look of it yet.

Here's a little tune that you might know. The gorgeous voice of Ella Fitzgerald singing "April in Paris."
